The Hand is Healed!!

We had a follow-up appointment yesterday with Dr. Mosley at Baptist Orthopedics (Dr. Stromeyer is no longer with the practice). He said Joe’s hand has healed nicely where the tendon was repaired.

This is great news for Joe’s mobility because now we can start physical therapy for him to learn to use the walker without the platform and then eventually move to crutches.

(the platform attached to the walker. Joe walks holding the walker with the right hand and the left elbow resting on that platform.)

We go back to Birmingham on September 3 to find out when he can start physical therapy for walking on the left leg however, Doctor Mosley looked at it in xray yesterday and said it looks beautiful. (Yay!!)

Please keep Joe’s brother Jason in your prayers as he goes to the doctor next week for his heart.

Buckle Up!

Working that Prayer chain….

Things are pretty much status-quo for Joe and I right now. He’s still not allowed to push/pull/grasp/lift/hold with the left hand and still non-weight bearing on the left leg. We’re still staying in our “summer home”, I’m working from home, and Joe’s getting cabin fever.
We go back to the doctor on July 30 for his hand check-up and we’ll hopefully reusme the physical therapy after that. The hip check-up is scheduled for September 3 in Birmingham.

Some big news for us right now is that we would like for all of our friends to please say a prayer for Joe’s youngest brother Jason. I don’t have the details but there is something not working correctly in his heart and it’s possible the doctor may do surgery. Please send up a request for Jason and all of the family as we wait to find out what the next step will be.

Hope you are all doing well!
Wear your seat belt!
Tip your waiter!
Don’t take wooden nickels.

Adios!

We’re all hanging at the house playing phase10 and Wii. Joe’s leg was pretty swollen so he’s kept it elevated today.

Changes

Today was long, tiring and strenuous…and then the clock struck noon.
We’re trying to get a routine down, we’re trying to adapt, and we’re simply trying to learn how to live with what we’ve got.
We both truly believe we have been blessed by God through all of this.

Joe’s starting to talk more about the accident and actually grasp the severity of the injuries. I’ve been scared to talk about it with him because I don’t know how to truly express to him how close he came to a completely different outcome without sounding harsh. I don’t want him to focus on what could have been. I just want him to remain positive and in the right mindframe to overcome this and not let it drag him down.

I know he’s going to have down days. I know he’s going to grieve for the loss of life as he used to know it. However, I also know that he was given a second chance. He has the opportunity to come out of this stronger, faster, and better than he went into it.

I guess only time will tell how he is going to deal with this. Right now things are coming up roses, I just pray that it continues to be a positive thing for him both mentally and physically.

I get to shoot Joe in the belly with Lovenox and make him excercise morning, noon and night. I think this is a win-win situation for me!
